I Love Smoke-free Hong Kong Campaign

The Tobacco Control Office of the Department of Health has been promoting a smoke-free culture to the public through the mass media. To raise the public awareness on the hazards of smoking and secondhand smoke, and the newly amended Smoking (Public Health) Ordinance, a publicity campaign entitled "I love smoke-free Hong Kong" has been started since 2005.

Smoke-free Word Puzzle

The Tobacco Control Office organised the "Smoke-free Word Puzzle" in 2009. The game aims to enhance student's understanding of tobacco control and smoking cessation effort in Hong Kong, as well as to urge them to deliver the messages of quitting smoking to their smoking parents or friends.

Various primary and secondary schools actiively participated this campaign. About twenty thousand students have submitted their answers.

"The Most Deterring Pictorial Health Warnings" Election

Posting of pictorial health warnings on the package of tobacco products has been effected for about 2 years. To evaluate the effect of different pictorial health warnings, the Tobacco Control Office of Department of Health organised "The Most Deterring Pictorial Health Warning" election for Hong Kong citizens to vote for the most deterring pictorial health warning in Hong Kong.

The response is overwhelming and the results are as follows: Most people (27%) voted No.2 as the most deterring pictorial health warnings.

95% of all participants agreed to make the pictorial health warnings more deterring.
